Environmental Benefits

It is in the best interest of today’s citizen to be mindful of the impacts we have on our natural environment. Any reduction in non-renewable energy consumption and a gradual switch to renewable energies is a positive change and will minimize the impact of an energy crisis on our comfort of living. As such, solar water heating systems are an ideal way to harness available solar energy. Canada’s interests in becoming a world leader in renewable energies has led to the inception of financial incentives for installations such as these, in the form of government grants.

Financial Benefits

The financial benefits of using a solar water heating system are significant. Typically, over 40% savings on domestic hot water heating is achieved! There have been cases, however, where almost 100% savings have been achieved. The energy bill savings result in a payback of capital expenditure within 5 to 10 years. With a life expectancy of 25 years, the long-term financial benefits quickly become apparent.

Additional Benefits of a Solar Water Heating System

There are numerous additional benefits with a solar water heating system. Firstly, by reducing the load on the existing boiler system, the life expectancy of the boiler system is increased. Also, the solar water heating panels lead to an extended roof life, in that the roof has less exposure to the sun and the elements. In addition, the panels provide roof shading in the summer, which leads to lower cooling requirements.
